Funeral and Bereavement

When a death occurs, it is important for the parish community to come together and help the family in every way possible. There are several area of support that are critical, from prayers to funeral dinners. By volunteering for this ministry, you would be telling your fellow parishioners, you are there for them in their time of need.

Bereavement Ministry
Being sensitive to the needs and desires of the family who has lost a loved one, the members of this committee visit and offer help in planning all aspects of the Funeral Mass. Following a notification of a death in the Parish from the Pastor, liturgy planners contact the family to express the sympathy of the parish community and to offer their services. The family is assisted in selecting appropriate readings, music and participation of family and friends in the Mass of Christian Burial. The Mass then becomes a real celebration of the deceased person's life.

Members of this ministry are present at the Funeral Liturgy and assist in setting things up for Mass and putting things back afterward.

Funeral Luncheons
This service by the ladies guild volunteers is offered to registered and active parishioners of St. Rose of Lima in the event of the loss of a family member. A hot meal with salads and desserts can be served to a maximum of 100 people in the school basement. We provide not only food, but a much needed sharing time for family and close friends. Volunteers are asked to provide dishes as needed.

Helpers at Funeral Liturgy
Anyone desiring to help at funeral Masses representing our parish at a time of bereavement is encouraged to join this ministry. Volunteers will be liable for opening and closing the doors of the Church and in the setup for Mass. They will also help with the readings and serving as needed.

All people interested in helping during parishioner's times of need, please contact the parish office.
